this local history group for residents of flackwell heath, loudwater and wooburn, in buckinghamshire, aims to promote an interest in our history and to foster a sense of community. our objectives are: to conduct research into aspects of the history and life in the communities of flackwell heath, loudwater and wooburn to hold exhibitions on subjects of historical and topical interest to conduct community projects on the history of flackwell heath, loudwater, wooburn and their environs and related subjects of local and community interest to liaise with schools and other local interest groups to provide information on the history of flackwell heath, loudwater, wooburn and area to support flackwell heath community library in preserving records and sources of information on the history of the locality to organise talks, seminars and workshops on local history. programme for march - may 2018 now into our seventh year the has plans for yet another full year of research activities, talks and events. we hope our latest programme provides enough variety to suit all your interests but do let us know if there is something that you would particularly like us to cover later in the year. monday 19th march 2018, at 7.30pm at the flackwell heath community library high wycombes contribution to aviation dave scott will provide an enlightening tale about events before the great war, the manufacture of aeroplane parts by the local furniture factories in ww1, events between the wars, such as sir alan cobham's flying circus, amy johnson (who lived locally), and the bourne end flying field. the talk will conclude with the major manufacture of aeroplane parts in the town`s furniture factories in ww2, especially the de havilland mosquito. this is a ticketed event. the tickets will be available at the flackwell heath community library in february and are 5 (3 to friends of fhcl). please note that tickets will not be available on the night. monday 16th april 2018, at 7.30 pm at flackwell heath community library steam on the met and chiltern lines john gurney presents a new talk on the history of the local railways. topics included will be: the metropolitan railway which spawned the term metroland via amersham to verney junction and its steam locomotives the brill steam tramway the construction of the marylebone main line from denham to princes risborough and its steam locomotives. this is a ticketed event. the tickets are now available from the library and are 5 (3 to friends of fhcl). please note that tickets will not be available on the night. just an item of interest - a tour of wycombe cemetery by group member sally scagell who for the past 10 years has carried out research there: sunday 6th may 2018 2-3.30pm 'pushing up the daisies' for wycombe arts festival please book your place with wycombe museum. tickets 5. numbers limited. see [email protected] join a tour of wycombe cemetery and discover the stories behind some of the women buried there before they gained the right to vote. the tour will include some familiar wycombe names but also quite a few names now long-forgotten. wear shoes suitable for wet grass and uneven ground. meet at the museum. monday 14th may 2018, from 7.15 pm at the flackwell heath community library fact finding forum. free entry. come along and join us for a chat and a cuppa and share your memories of living in the local villages. do bring along any photos of interest which we can copy for our archives. free entry. if you live in a pre 1920s house and know about its history we would love to hear from you see our appeal corner below. monday 21st may 2018, at 7.30 pm at flackwell heath community library rations to fashions - shopping in high wycombe 1945-1970 an illustrated talk by buck free press columnist mike dewey mike will present a history of the shopping experience in high wycombe spanning 25 years, including the ever popular murrays. this is a ticketed event. the tickets are now available at the flackwell heath community library and are 5 (3 to friends of fhcl). please note that tickets will not be available on the night. book a family history research session would you like to find out about where you come from?
